After seeing waves of backlash for receiving an almost $650,000 grant by the Eula Mae and John Baugh Foundation for research regarding LGBTQ acceptance in churches, Baylor University has rescinded their decision to take the grant.

According to Ministry Watch, the school decided to shy away from accepting the grant which would look at “disenfranchisement and exclusion” of the LGBTQ community in churches. Making an announcement on July 9, the school’s president, Linda Livingstone, said that the Baylor School of Social Work, “voluntarily offered to rescind their acceptance and grant.”
/**/Ministry Watch also noted that the institution’s Statement on Human Sexuality “recognizes that homosexuality is a deviation from the norm understood by Christian churches across the ages.”
In Livingston’s statement, it was noted that the school “affirm[s] the biblical understanding of human sexuality as a gift from God expressed through purity in singleness and fidelity in marriage between a man and a woman.”
She also said that Baylor works toward “providing a loving and caring community for all, including our LGBTQIA+ students.”
