The attacker, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura from Las Vegas, entered the building wearing body armor and wielding an AR-style rifle. After shooting multiple victims in the lobby, he moved to the 33rd floor, where he died by a self-inflicted gunshot. Among the dead was Officer Didarul Islam, a former NYPD officer working private security at the time. A fifth victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed that the gunman acted alone. The FBI, which is assisting with the investigation, has not released details on motive. Witnesses described panic and chaos as workers barricaded themselves in conference rooms and offices. Videos show employees being evacuated with hands raised as police swept the building.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams urged residents to avoid the area during the investigation. The NYPD’s quick response was credited with preventing further casualties. Tactical teams cleared the 38-story building floor by floor to ensure no additional threats.
