Surprise, surprise.
30,000 of Lois Lerner’s mysteriously “lost” emails, which the Obama Administration and Democrats in Congress claimed were gone forever, have been found.
We knew the Obama Administration’s bizarre claim that the emails were unrecoverable, deleted, not backed up, crashed, and on and on was just flat false.
It’s taken our work, the demands of the American people and congressional oversight to cut through this small part of the pattern of deception.
The government watchdog, the Inspector General who uncovered the targeting in the first place, has now found these supposedly missing emails.
As the Washington Examiner reports:
“Up to 30,000 missing emails sent by former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner have been recovered by the IRS inspector general, five months after they were deemed lost forever.
“The U.S. Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) informed congressional staffers from several committees on Friday that the emails were found among hundreds of “disaster recovery tapes” that were used to back up the IRS email system.
“‘They just said it took them several weeks and some forensic effort to get these emails off these tapes,’ a congressional aide told the Washington Examiner.”
What these emails reveal remains to be seen, but if they are anything like the emails we’ve already seen, they will continue to show a corrupt and politically partisan IRS targeting conservative and pro-life Americans.
President Obama’s IRS has been in complete cover-up mode. It began be saying it had all the emails, and it would give them to Congress. That was false. Then months after it knew emails were missing, it was forced to admit that it has lost some of Lois Lerner’s emails. It said that those emails were unrecoverable—that the backup tapes were gone. That was false. Now the IRS is claiming it was hoping all along someone would find those emails.
“As Commissioner Koskinen has stated, the IRS welcomes TIGTA’s independent review and expert forensic analysis,” the IRS statement said. “Commissioner Koskinen has said for some time he would be pleased if additional Lois Lerner emails from this time frame could be found.”
The truth is that Commissioner Koskinen has been President Obama’s chief stonewalling officer at the IRS.
Despite the continued deception, the truth will come to light.
