Psalm 3:1-8 But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of my head” (v. 3, KJV). We sing a chorus taken from this psalm often in our church, and every time I sing it I feel strength rise up within me. The proverb reading today asks who can bear a broken spirit. There are so many today with broken spirits who need the Lord to be the glory and the lifter of their heads. The Lord came to heal the brokenhearted, and only He has the power to do this. When we feel lower than a snake’s belly, the Lord comes and lifts our heads up.
There is a lady in our church who never smiles. She never raises her hands in praise to the Lord, and often she just sits and stares into space. She has a broken spirit, and she needs Jesus who can be the glory and the lifter of her head. In ministering to this lady I discovered she also has much unforgiveness in her heart. Until her unforgiveness is dealt with, the chances of her having an emotional breakthrough to enable her to receive the healing of her heart are slim.
The Lord longs to lift up our heads, and He loves being a shield about us, but we can block his help by hanging on to bitterness and resentment because of unforgiveness. The Lord desires to sustain us, but if we continue in unforgiveness we cannot receive His sustaining power—the very power that can heal our hearts.
Lord, don’t allow me to ever remain in unforgiveness. Show me quickly if there is someone I need to forgive, and then give me the grace to do it. Thank You for being the glory and the lifter of my head.
