1 Corinthians 1:1-17 Is it possible to live a blameless life? As I meditated on our New Testament reading today, the verse that gave me great hope was, “Who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ” (v. 8).
We all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, but as we confess those sins, Jesus cleanses us from all unrighteousness. It would be impossible for us to live a sinless life because the Bible tells us that our hearts are despitefully wicked. John also tells us that if we say that we have not sinned, we are a liar. (See 1 John 1:8.)
When two of my boys were into the things of this world, I cried out often to the Lord in prayer for them. One day as I was praying for them I said, “Lord, I do not want my boys to be ashamed of anything they have said or done on this earth when they see You face to face.” My heart was comforted when I heard the Lord speak these words to my spirit, “Your boys will be fine when they see me face to face. I bore their shame on the cross, and all the sins they have confessed I have forgotten. I see your boys now as fine, even though they are not completely walking with me daily. They are fine as gold. I see them as my three golden vessels.”
Could it be true? It’s too good to be true!! It is true!! It is true!! Jesus Himself will present us all before the Father, and we will be blameless before Him, without spot or wrinkle. When we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we received His righteousness, not our own, and it is His righteousness within us that will enable us to be blameless before the Father. Whatever we have confessed to Him as sin and repented of has been dropped into God’s mighty ocean of love. Jesus has put up a sign in that ocean, and it says, “No fishing.” We would all sink quickly if we reviewed our past failures and sins without knowing the Lord’s forgiveness. God’s Word is true. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
Can we live a blameless life? The answer is yes. The condition, however, is that our hearts are turned toward Jesus and we honestly confess our sins to Him.
Lord, help me to confess those sins Your Holy Spirit convicts me of today.
