Matthew 12:22-45 I have a friend who said she would probably spend the first 10,000 years in heaven in the “idle word room.” It would take that long for the Lord to judge all of her idle words. Jesus said in Matthew 12:35-37, “A good man out of the good treasure of the heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
Thank God there is no “idle word room” in heaven, but this passage should be a wake-up call to us all. We need to be careful about what we speak aloud. It is important to remember that Satan cannot read our minds, but he can send us many evil thoughts. Our responsibility is to take those thoughts captive to Jesus Christ before we speak them aloud. I would not be married today if I spoke aloud every thought the enemy gave me about my husband. Satan is the accuser of the brethren, and his language is always critical, judgmental and negative.
I recall one night soaking in the bathtub after a long day of hard work in the home cleaning and watching after our three sons. Some of the thoughts running through my mind were so negative. I can still remember thinking, Nobody cares in this household; nobody helps me. I’m just a slave. My husband never helps around the house. Suddenly while I was drowning in this pool of negative words in my mind, I heard the Lord speak to my spirit. He said, “Don’t let the enemy take advantage of you.” Then I realized Satan wanted me to speak all those thoughts aloud to my husband. I resisted Satan then and said aloud to him, “If you think I’m going to repeat the thoughts you just gave me to my husband, you have another think coming. I release these thoughts right now to the Lord Jesus Christ, and I refuse to allow these thoughts to ever be spoken as words out of my mouth.” The thoughts stopped immediately.
Our mouth can be compared to a gun. A Wall Street article compares the mouth to a gun. It said, “Sometimes you may blurt out something you really don’t mean. But words once spoken, like bullets once fired, cannot be recalled, and they can wound.”
Don’t blast anyone today by pulling the trigger of your tongue. In a multitude of words is sin.
