As the nation celebrates Memorial Day, we remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to give us the liberty we have today.
With all of the unrest and the protest by the far left, it’s ironic that many of them lash out against our country because of the freedoms paid for in many wars by the patriots we remember on this special day.
Today, we also think of our military, knowing those who serve can be potentially put in harm’s way, especially with some of the escalating threats happening in various parts of the world.
Thankfully, we have a new president who wants to strengthen our military, which had been dwindling and is in many ways smaller today than it has been in decades.
Recently, I had the opportunity to interview my friend Col. Evan Trinkle, who will soon retire after 30 years of service in the U.S. Army.
Although we did not specifically talk about Memorial Day, we did talk about his experience with the military, and I thought it would be appropriate to share this podcast with you today. As his friend, I knew he was a very effective leader, and I asked him questions about leadership and the military. Some of the concepts he shared were so good I invited him to the podcast studio, where we talked about leadership. Even though the military is, of course, secular, he tells how Christians can learn from military concepts such as having “positional authority” and how a leader must be willing to care for those under his command, just as Jesus chose not to exert His authority but instead served others.
