Cancel culture is all over the news these days—as it should be. More and more Christians have found themselves the target of the social media powers that be who delete them, block them or shadow ban them in an effort to remove legitimacy and credibility from their platform.
Mike Bickle says believers shouldn’t be surprised by this state of affairs because David prophesied it in Psalm 2. In fact, Bickle wrote a book about it: God’s Answer to the Growing Crisis.
“There are two different categories of crisis,” Bickle says. “There’s external crisis, which [includes] economic problems, weather, earthquakes, social unrest, etc., etc. That’s not the crisis I’m talking about, though I believe that crisis is increasing.”
What Bickle says he’s referring to is the spiritual crisis David prophesied in Psalm 2 when he mentions the “kings of the earth.” “There would be a time, David said 3,000 years ago … where the kings of the earth would work together to drive the influence of the Word of God out of the culture,” Bickle says.
“That just seemed inconceivable 3,000 years ago,” he adds. “Do the kings of the earth work together? They don’t ever work together—not really, not much. They might make treaties and deals, but typically, I’m guessing, as soon as the treaty is made, they go back home to their team and their Cabinet. And they try to skirt the deal to their advantage and twist it and turn it, I guess.”
Bickle explains that what the kings want to do as they work together (Ps. 2:3) is to “‘break God’s bonds and cast out his cords.’ What does that mean? They’re describing the Word of God in a negative way. They see the Word of God as bondage. They see the Word of God is inhibiting human potential. They want to break God’s bonds—the archaic, old-fashioned biblical values—and get them off a society.”
