Operating in the Power of the Holy Spirit Is Not Confined to Church Pews

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God” (Rom. 8:14).

It seems that being led by the Spirit is much easier when you are in church. The above commandment from God is not limited to ministry on Sunday mornings. This commandment is for everyday life as well. We can use the Holy Spirit to glorify Christ even in worldly, secular situations. Our non-believing friends can be incredibly blessed when the Holy Spirit leads you, even when they do not realize it.

Countless times, I have given prophetic words to people without them knowing it. I have often served others in ways that were exactly what they needed because this is what the Holy Spirit told me to do. God is getting glory, even when the Holy Spirit is used to bless an unbeliever in an unbelieving workplace.

I interviewed Dr. Janie Minor, a biology teacher in Alabama who uses the Holy Spirit every day to bless her students without violating any state law against sharing her faith. In actuality, her faith is being shared by the Holy Spirit’s anointing without violating the Board of Education mandates. I have given prophetic words to unbelievers on many occasions, and I love it when they ask how I knew that. What an incredible opening for sharing the Lord with them. It’s as simple as saying, “When I saw you, I felt the Lord telling me this, and He wanted me to share it with you.”

Not long ago, I was at a restaurant in the Miami International Airport, and I shared a prophetic word with our server. Tears began to stream down her face, and she kneeled at our table and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord. Yes, in the middle of a crowded restaurant in an airport.

The Holy Spirit is always leading us. Many of us get too busy and distracted to follow His lead. His love is not only for our brothers and sisters in Christ. God wants to extend His power and goodness toward unbelievers just as Jesus did during His ministry on earth. If you are filled with the Spirit, you are the vessel God has chosen to show His power to the world.
