We are taught about the baptism of water and the need for repentance. We seek after the baptism of the Holy Spirit which ignites, anoints and expands our capabilities. But have you considered the baptism of fire that God mentions in Matthew 3:11b? “[Jesus] will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire”
What does this mean for us? I believe this fire will do two things. First, this fire will burn away whatever is not of God. This includes all confusion that is currently causing us to believe in falseness that appears as truth. This mixture is damaging and results in many losing their faith. Second, this fire will cause a burning in our bones that cannot be contained, as Jeremiah 20:9 states. This fire brings about change, enlarges our desire to share God’s truth and increases our ability to live effectively for the Lord.
Solomon prayed that fire would fall, and when it fell, 2 Chronicles 7:1-3 tells us that all the Israelites saw not just the fire but the glory of the Lord above the temple. His glory filled where they were, and they fell with their faces to the ground, worshipped and gave thanks to God. We desperately need this over our nations and our lives, a return to our first love and moral living.
We no longer can tolerate a fireless faith because it is false. Our passion for truth must consume us again. God’s fire burns up the enemy and his tactics, quickens and cleanses us, and forces breakthrough in every area of our lives.
