In my in-depth, amazing conversation with gospel singer and songwriter Kierra Sheard, I absolutely loved our time together discussing being creative with gospel music.
I shared how at one point I didn’t want to listen to gospel music anymore because it all sounded the same.
Kierra feels we need to challenge each other with love. “Gospel music should reach all, not just religious folks,” Kierra says. “We should love people to salvation. We should be allowed to express our creativity through gospel music, even if it sounds different. Being creative and different doesn’t mean we don’t have the Holy Ghost. We should be like Jesus when He sat at the table with the sinners.”
Kierra went on to say, “We should learn how to talk in parables like Jesus so all people can understand the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
With Kanye West topping the latest gospel charts by a mile, we should be stirred up, seeking God for where gospel music is headed next and allow the Holy Ghost to lead us in the way we should go. It is all about reaching souls. What is the sound of God for them in this season? I’m sure if we ask God Himself, He will lead us every step of the way by His Spirit. {eoa}
