Some years ago in the early fall, we planted two apple trees, a cherry tree and a plum tree. The two apple trees stood in front of the house, but the cherry tree and the plum tree stood in the garden behind our house, facing toward the forest nearby.
The next spring, we were very excited to see them grow. All of them did have some progress with flowers and leaves popping out. They just looked so beautiful, except the plum tree. The apple trees and the cherry tree grew as expected, but what in the world was wrong with this little fellow, the plum tree? It sure did look dry.
In the seasons to come, the plum tree continued to surprise us because there were almost no signs at all of growth. It looked alone as if it was standing in the desert. We were very tempted more than once to just give up on it and chop it down.
However, in the following year, there was one plum. Only one. The year after, five plums. Five. But this summer, there was suddenly an explosion of fruit. There was so much fruit on the plum tree that the lower branches almost touched the ground due to the weight of them. It also surpassed both the cherry tree and the apple trees in terms of fruit!
Then God spoke. Although your work may look like nothing at first and you feel like giving up, hang in there. Trust the Lord that what He has spoken regarding your calling and your assignment will come to past. Your harvest will truly come. Jesus said in John 10:10 in the Amplified Bible, “I came that they (you) may have – and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).”
Our plum tree was really overflowing with good and tasty plums. We ate and ate during the summer, and we enjoyed the tree for the first time in many years. Remember, the Lord chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain. Your harvest will truly come! {eoa}
