Fasting is one of the secrets to increase your spiritual authority. It can be life-changing! Jesus said in Luke 9:23 (CSB), “If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” One of the best ways to deny ourselves is in fasting. Say “No” to your flesh that is demanding to be fed in order to be fed for a time by the “Bread of Heaven.”
Gwen Shaw, who founded this ministry, went to China as a missionary in 1947 until she escaped during the Communist takeover. She then worked in Taiwan and later in Hong Kong. She was busy just being a good missionary.
In 1963, a man of God from India came to Hong Kong to minister and she was his interpreter. God move powerfully in a way that she had not ever seen among the Chinese. She asked him, “What is the secret of your power?”
He said, “Do you really want to know?”
“Yes,” she replied.
“God gave me a thirty-day fast on water, and ever since, the fire of revival has followed me everywhere I go.” She saw that it was true!
So she began to seek the Lord for her own fast and the Lord gave her a twenty-one-day fast on liquids. She had an appointment with God! The Lord spoke to her as she was finishing her fast, “Hong Kong is going to be too straight [too narrow or confined] for the ministry I’m going to give you. I’m sending you to the nations.”
As she went to the nations, she began to see the fire of God fall everywhere she went. Then, in 1966, she heard about how the Lord was pouring out His Spirit tremendously in Argentina. She said, “Lord, I want to get involved with what You are doing there.” So He sent her.
She saw God do such amazing, life-changing things in the meetings. One night she returned to her hotel and said, “Lord, why are you using me like this?”
He said, “It’s because I know you will do anything I tell you to do.”
“You mean that’s all there is to it?”
“Yes,” He replied.
“You mean anybody can do this?”
“Anybody who will obey Me.”
She dropped to her knees and she began to pray with travailing, weeping, howling prayer for God to raise up ten thousand women who would obey God in anything that He told them to do.
Four years later, the Lord spoke to her again, “I’m going to call other people to fast, just like you have fasted, and I will anoint them and use them as well.” Listen to this podcast as Sharon and Philip discuss their life-changing experiences with fasting.
