Betrayal from a spouse is an indescribable pain. Why does betrayal seem more painful when it comes from someone close to you?
We are hardwired for connection, and after we are betrayed by someone close to us, we tend to look inward. Why didn’t I see this coming? Was there something I missed? Can I even trust myself to look out for myself?
When betrayal happened to me, I began to wonder if there was something wrong with me and why didn’t I see it coming.
Betrayal is destructive at the least and leaves a mess in its wake; it brings confusion and can feel very personal. Some of you reading this may have never experienced betrayal on the level I’m referring to, and some of you may have experienced far worse.
One thing I know is that God can heal your wounds from betrayal if you will let Him. He saw what happened to you, He heard your cries and He cried with you. He desires to put you back together and make you whole again.
God loves you, He loves your marriage and is for your marriage. The enemy is the one who kills, steals and destroys; not God. So many times we blame God for what is happening within our marriages and relationships when in fact, the enemy is behind all of the division, anger and strife. Remembering who the real enemy is is key, and it’s not your spouse!
