If you are an intercessory prayer warrior, you want spiritual results on earth as it is written in the courts of heaven.

You are a spiritual person; you want spiritual results.

Intercessory Prayer Is Essential in This Hour!

We can’t think of intercessory prayer as something that supplements our walk with the Lord; rather, it is essential to our walk with the Lord.

Intercessory prayer is about a relationship with the Father, and it is how we war in the spiritual realm.

β€œFor we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand… praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints…” (Eph. 6:12-13, 18, emphasis added)

So then, what are the keys to releasing intercessory prayers in the courts of heaven?

How to Release Intercessory Prayers

Ask for forgiveness. Before you go into your quiet place of intercessory prayer, your prayer closet, ask the Lord what He wants you to come out of agreement with. What sin is the enemy holding against you that you need to confess? Maybe it’s against yourself or others. Ask for revelation.

Daily intercession and prayer flow freely when there is a daily cleansing. This is a powerful habit and pattern for living a healthy spiritual life.

Understand that intercessory prayer is about having intimacy and being in the presence of God. The key is to practice being in His presence. We need to understand that when going into our prayer closets (our secret place to pray) or wherever we pray in solitude, we must practice being in the presence of God.

When you are in your quiet place, give all your cares to Him. Release your worries, to-do lists and anything that wants to pull your mind away from the Lord. Ask Him to fill you with His presence. Meditate on how wide, long, deep and high His love is for you and for all those you are praying for.

In your prayer closet, listen to God’s voice. As you start to meditate on His love, listen to what He is saying. When you listen, you will hear. He will open doors for you and invite you to the next level in the Spirit.

In Revelation 3:20, it says He is knocking. And when you open the door to Him, He will dine with you. This is a picture of intimacy. This is a picture of provision. He is providing all you needβ€”your daily breadβ€”to accomplish what He wants you to do today. He is with you and wants to provide insights and words, so you know how to pray for others.

Call upon God and glorify Him. Psalms 50:15 says, “Call upon me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.”

You are surrounded by a world filled with trouble. When you come to Him every day, call upon His presence, ask for deliverance and glorify Him, peaceβ€”shalomβ€”comes in.

Philippians 4:6-7 tells us, β€œBe anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Calling upon God in the troubling times, giving Him all the anxieties and worries, operating out of a spirit of thanksgiving and letting your requests be known in the courts of heaven release peace in your life.

Sometimes, it can feel heavy when interceding for others, and the enemy wants nothing more than for you to question God’s gift of peace. However, these passages remind us that we find peace in His presence, no matter the trouble. Keep glorifying Him!

Surrender your will and kneel to God. When Jesus was in the garden praying, He knelt and surrendered His will to the Father.

β€œWhen He came to the place, He said to them, β€˜Pray that you may not enter into temptation.’ And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, β€˜Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.’ Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground,” (Luke 22:40-44).

Jesus, God incarnate, knelt, exposing His feet (as they would’ve been covered by a long robe while standing) and said, β€œI’m surrendering My free will to walk where I want to walk to You. I will walk where You want me to walk, Father. If there is another way to accomplish this spiritual assignment, I’m all in. But nevertheless, not My will but Yours be done.”

Kneeling declares to God that the feet and the authority that He has given you, you give it over to Him. It declares you trust Him to accomplish good things out of the troubles of this world.

This is the power of intercession.

It takes a step of faith. As intercessory prayer warriors, God will ask us to do some things and pray for some things that require a step of faith. However, if we are honest, we battle doubt in these situations and say, β€œLord, I don’t want to risk my faith. What happens if I fail?”

Know this, failing in intercessory prayer is actually falling forward. Fall forward, not backward. What does that mean? It’s symbolic that failure becomes the stepping stone and gets you one step closer to your success.

Address your doubts.

Declare and believe God’s Word.

Surrender the outcome to Him.

These are the keys to intercessory prayer.
