Why Believers Must Develop a Heavenly Mindset

Beloved, as believers in Yeshua, we need to be focused on and living for—the age to come. Our thinking as well as our actions should reflect and demonstrate this.

We cannot allow our temporal circumstances to define who we are in God or distract us from having a heavenly perspective. Instead, we need to stay focused on eternity in the midst of passing trials, tribulations and chaos.

“For our momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison” (2 Cor. 4:17).

Know that the earthly challenges we may be experiencing are working within us an eternal weight of glory.

We need to keep our eyes on the eternal prize!

A divine destination awaits us! This world is not our home. Everything here on earth is temporary and will soon pass away. Let us be like Abraham and set our sights on the majestic city whose builder and architect is God.

“For he (Abraham) was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God” (Heb. 11:10).

Beloved, living with an eternal viewpoint requires that we are continually looking towards heaven. Everything we think of or encounter should be filtered through an eternal mindset. Our natural thinking is subdued by our supernatural existence. This will determine and change the course of our lives.

“Set your minds on the things that are above, not on the things that are on earth” (Col. 3:2).

We are not of this world. This world can never and will never satisfy us. There is no fulfillment here, we will always be thirsty, hungry and wanting more.

Let us cease from trying to please ourselves with the brief and tangible things that this world has to offer. Instead, we need to live each day with the realization that we are sojourners on a journey—eternal life is our calling and heaven is our destination.

“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Phil. 3:20).

That is why Paul also said:

“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Phil. 1:21).

While we are still here, we need to do good, discipline ourselves to submit to God’s Spirit and share our hope with others.

All the while, clinging to His promise:

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away” (Rev. 21:4).

As we eagerly await His return!

“Behold, I am coming quickly” (Rev. 22:12).
