Jonathan Cahn Official YouTube Channel

In a message to his Beth-Israel congregation on the fulfillment of the Old Testament Law, Jonathan Cahn shared a thrilling story to make his point on why we are reliant today on Christ’s fulfillment of the Law instead of a different standard.

“The issue of the Law, it comes up today in Messianic circles and beyond that,” Cahn says. “There’s two extremes here. One is if you tell people they have to be under the Law, that’s an extreme, and that’s not of God.”

Cahn points out that the other extreme would be telling people that they can’t do things like observe the Sabbath.

To demonstrate his point about the fulfillment of the Law, Cahn spoke about the practice of circumcision and how the early church met to decide if it was necessary to be circumcised for salvation. This point came along with an intriguing story of how Cahn filled in one time for a church service when the guest speaker was accidentally knifed.

Cahn said that prior to him being a pastor, a guest speaker came from the Nazarene Church to speak at Beth Israel. After being introduced by Gary Selman, Selman gave the speaker a hug. Following that hug, the speaker got up to the pulpit and quickly excused himself, saying he had to leave. Selman followed the speaker after he ran to the bathroom. Selman then reported the issue.

“Gary comes out and says, ‘we have a problem,’” Cahn remembers. “The guy wasn’t yet full-time and he did artwork as a profession, and for some reason he left an X-Acto knife in his pocket. And when Gary hugged him, it went into his chest. Basically, Gary knifed the guest speaker.”

While the guest speaker went to the hospital, Cahn says he was then approached to quickly come up with a sermon to preach.

Reeling back to the early church’s discussions about circumcision, Cahn points out how God sometimes leads us by the things that we do not say or do.

“God did reveal that the gospel had to go to the Gentiles,” Cahn says. “He didn’t say anything about circumcision. He said ‘go make disciples of all nations…’ so sometimes he even leads by what He doesn’t say, and that tells you something there.”
