At the end of March 2025, I had a profound vision that stirred my heart deeply. I saw a man clothed in a priestly garment, draped with a prayer shawl, standing in the midst of a vast, open field. He raised a shofar to his lips and as he blew it, several powerful blasts echoed through the atmosphere. In that moment, I heard the words, “CALL THE NATIONS TO RIGHTEOUSNESS.” The urgency in those words was unmistakable. As the church goes, so goes the nation.
This is a critical hour and it is vital that believers in every nation not only receive the imputed righteousness of Christ, but also manifest righteousness in their thoughts, words and deeds. There is a divine invitation to rise up in righteousness, for there are blessings upon the righteous and consequences for wickedness.
In a day when evil deeds once hidden are being exposed, it is time for us to choose repentance from sinful behaviors and actions. This is a moment to pray, proclaim and act in righteousness. It is crucial that we align ourselves with the heart of God and faithfully respond to His call.
How Righteousness Blesses a Nation: A Biblical Perspective
Righteousness, in the biblical sense, refers to living in alignment with God’s standards of holiness, justice and truth. It encompasses the thoughts, words and actions that reflect a life pleasing to God. The Scriptures speak clearly about the profound impact righteousness can have, not only on individuals but also on entire nations. A nation that embraces righteousness is one that experiences divine blessings, peace and prosperity, while a nation that rejects righteousness faces consequences that affect its moral and social fabric.
Righteousness Exalts a Nation
One of the clearest and most well-known biblical declarations on this matter comes from Proverbs 14:34: “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people,” (MEV). This verse highlights the central truth that when a nation upholds righteous values—such as integrity, justice and compassion—it is lifted up in the eyes of God and men. God blesses such a nation with His favor, leading to a strong and stable society. Righteousness brings with it peace, prosperity and a sense of security for the people, as they live in harmony with the principles that God has ordained for their well-being.
On the contrary, sin brings reproach, not only to individuals but to entire nations. When a nation tolerates or even embraces wickedness, it suffers from moral decay, division and unrest. The absence of righteousness leads to corruption, injustice and turmoil, as the ethical foundation of the society crumbles.
Righteousness Leads to Justice and Abundant Blessing
In Psalm 33:5, it is written, “He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the lovingkindness of the Lord,” (MEV). God’s love for righteousness means that He will bless nations that promote justice, fairness and the protection of the vulnerable. A righteous nation is one that seeks to uphold the rule of law, protects the rights of its citizens and ensures that the poor and oppressed are cared for.
In Isaiah 1:17, God calls on His people to “learn to do good; seek justice, relieve the oppressed; judge the fatherless, plead for the widow,” (MEV). This call for justice is a hallmark of a righteous nation. When nations make these values central to their governance, the result is not only social harmony but also economic prosperity, as people are free to work and live in peace, knowing their rights are protected.
Righteousness Brings Peace
A nation that embraces righteousness also experiences peace. Isaiah 32:17 declares, “The work of righteousness shall be peace, and the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever,” (MEV). Righteousness produces stability within a nation, fostering a peaceful and cooperative environment where people can live without fear of violence, corruption or injustice. Righteous behavior encourages individuals and communities to act with kindness, understanding and respect, thus cultivating a culture of peace that strengthens the nation as a whole.
The Call for Personal Righteousness
For a nation to experience righteousness, it must start with the hearts of individuals. In 2 Chronicles 7:14, God makes a powerful promise: “If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land,” (MEV). This promise demonstrates that the righteousness of a nation is not merely the result of its leadership or laws, but is dependent on the collective righteousness of its people. When individuals live righteous lives, their actions contribute to the collective righteousness of the nation, leading to healing and restoration.
In the story of Joshua leading the people into the Promised Land, they experienced a miraculous victory at Jericho, marked by an extraordinary supernatural display of God’s power. The next city to be conquered was Ai. It should have been an easy victory, requiring only a small number of men, but tragically, they lost the battle and several lives were lost. Seeking the Lord for understanding, He revealed that the defeat was due to the disobedience and rebellion of one individual—Achan. Because of his failure to obey God’s specific command, the entire nation suffered defeat and lost precious lives. Achan was punished by death for his transgression and his family also suffered the consequences of his sin. This story illustrates the profound truth that the sin of one individual can have devastating consequences for an entire nation and the impact of such sin should never be minimized or ignored.
While wickedness can curse a nation, Scripture is clear that righteousness has the power to bless a nation. Through righteous thoughts, words and deeds, individuals and communities contribute to a society that reflects God’s justice, peace and love. Nations that embrace righteousness will experience divine favor, protection, prosperity and stability, while those that turn away from God’s principles will find their nations affected by the consequences of sin. Ultimately, Christ-based righteousness is not just a moral ideal, but a practical foundation upon which nations will flourish, bringing glory to God and blessing to all.
I invite you to four powerful action points:
Intentionally choose to love righteousness and hate wickedness: Psalm 45:7.
Pray for righteousness in the church in your nation according to 2 Chronicles 7:14.
Proclaim righteousness over the church in your nation: Job 22:28.
Behave righteously in all your actions and call the church in your nation into alignment: Romans 6:13.
