You don’t need prophetic insight or any supernatural spiritual discernment to realize that we are living in an unprecedented time of spiritual warfare. It is clearly seen and evident in our families, cities, states and nations. Therefore, the challenges of this generation cannot be met with casual Christianity. Because there is nothing casual about the spiritual activity surrounding us. The call must be met with an unusual and unprecedented anointing and force!
Purpose & Assignment
If you are reading this article, it is not by accident. I believe that you are one of the remnant people that God is going to raise up as a standard against the enemy in this hour. I’ve been pondering two passages of Scripture lately that have arrested my attention. One of them is Acts 13:36. It says, “For after David had served by the counsel of God in his own generation, he fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw decay,” (MEV). The NIV version says that when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep. So, the question in my mind becomes, what’s the purpose of God for my generation? And what is the assignment that I must complete to that purpose fulfilled?
Clearly our universal purpose in every generation as the church is to advance the kingdom of God. But exactly how is that mandate accomplished from generation to generation? As I look at the current spiritual climate in this nation, one thing has become abundantly clear. We are at war for this generation. On every level and in every sphere the battle is raging over which kingdom will rule our life and our land.
And we as the body of Christ are the determining factor.
The nation and the generations are in the hand of the church. And I, for one, refuse to allow the enemy to rule in my generation. It should be evident to all that there are spirits that have been loosed in this generation that no previous generation have had to combat. But this is why the Lord preserved you and I for this generation. We could have been born at any time in human history. But God chose us for this time. Why, so that we can Take Back The House!
For This Time, For This Generation
The phrase Take Back The House comes from the passage in Matthew 12:43-45 that says, “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through dry places seeking rest, but finds none. Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then it goes and brings with itself seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there. And the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it be also with this evil generation,” (MEV). I was meditating on this Scripture when I realized that even though Jesus was talking about a man and a house, He ends the teaching by saying, ‘so shall it be with this wicked generation.’ Therefore, Jesus was equating the man in the story with a generation of people that He defined as wicked.
Jesus says that a wicked generation is a generation of people that allow spirits that were once cast out to return. Which means that Satan seeks generational influence in people and nations. So, look at this passage of Scripture with a generational lens. The very fact that the spirit returned to the house means there was a time when it departed.
Since demon spirits do not leave voluntarily, there had to be a generation that expelled it from the house. Then it goes through dry places seeking rest. Or a better term is, expression. Demon spirits don’t need sleep. They crave a body to express their nature. They want habitation. So, it returns to the house and finds it empty and uninhabited. And then in an attempt to fortify itself, it brings seven other spirits more wicked to dwell there.
This is the battle for this generation. We are seeing the return of spirits. Even ancient spirits that we haven’t had to contend with since the Bible days in this nation and the nations of the world. Just a generation or two ago, they could not fathom the level of wickedness, evil, violence, perversion and corruption that we are dealing with today. This is a sign to us that the enemy has judged this generation as ripe for inhabiting.
It’s a sobering thing to consider, yet it is reality. This is why it seems that all of the issues that plagued this nation 50 and 60 years ago seem to have returned. From strife and division concerning races, to political unrest and assignation attempts, all the way to blatant sexual immorality and excessive drug abuse.
But there is good news! If these spirits were driven out before, they can be driven out again. All God needs is a people who rise up within the generation to say, not here and not now!
National Prayer Summer Mission
This is what we have come to do at the National Prayer Summit. We are coming to claim this generation for the glory of God. The main roll of the church is to occupy spiritual territory over our families, cities, states and nations. That’s the assignment. In Ephesians 1:19-23 Paul prays that we might know, “what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power, which He performed in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principalities, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet and made Him the head over all things for the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all things in all ways,” (MEV). Look closely at this verse. Paul is describing Jesus’ authority in the heavenly places, revealing that His authority is over all principalities and powers in the heavenly realm.
Furthermore, God put all things under His feet and gave Him to be the head over all things to His church. Which is His body! Where? In the heavenly places! Which means the church is the heavenly places’ extension of God’s authority. We are a heavenly places assembly. Not just an earthly assembly. Our function is in the heavenly places first! And then on earth secondarily.
With this truth you come realize that no matter how many people assemble inside of church buildings on Sunday mornings, if we don’t assemble in the heavenly places, we will not see victory over the kingdom of darkness. The truth of the matter is that through what Jesus has done, He has placed us far above principalities, powers, might and every spiritual entity in Satan’s kingdom.
That’s right! We are far above them! That means as believers in Christ, we are the highest ranking beings in the spirit world. We carry His rank in that realm! Therefore, when we release His authority, everything in that realm has to obey. Demons and angels!
This is what we are coming to the Prayer Summit to do. We are coming to release the authority of heaven over our nation in prayer. In prayer we are not only going to bind devils, but we are also going to release angels! We are going to unlock the explosive power and authority of heaven in the land. And see His kingdom come and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
This is our generational responsibility as the church in this hour. As we assemble in the heavenly places, we represent the fullness of Him who fills all and all with and through us! Together we will become a weapon of mass destruction against the enemy and shift the spiritual climate over our nation. Jesus declared that the gates of hell would not prevail against us if we would engage the heavens. This authority Jesus gave to the church is not just to defeat the schemes of the enemy, but also to release the plans of heaven into the earth.
I believe that once this Summit is over, there will be things set in motion that will impact the days, months and years to come. True prophetic anointing is both destructive to the enemy and yet productive for God. The Lord told Jeremiah in chapter 1:10, that he had set him over the nation to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build and to plant. That is the grace of the true prophetic gift! Remove and rebuild.
I believe with all of my heart that we are in a time of tearing down systems and structures that have been established by the enemy and replacing them with system and structure of the kingdom of Almighty God! God is moving throughout earth looking for fresh prophetic voices that will step forth and boldly aid Him in this reformation project in our generation.
Together let’s rise up and Take Back The House!
