Alveda King: There Is a Christ-Awareness in the Atmosphere This Christmas

Hello everyone. Is it my imagination, or are people more generous this year? In spite of dismal reports, there is definitely a Christ awareness in the atmosphere.

I almost didn’t write a Christmas message this year. With Thanksgiving behind us, and Christmas and the new year just a few days away, I’ve been struggling to write this message.

Yet the thoughts of friends and family compel me to write to you today. For the last two years, 2020 and 2021, life for mespirit, soul and bodyhas been a rollercoaster. Can the church say amen?

I can only imagine that the same applies to you as you read this message. The COVID pandemic, racial unrest, unbridled hate and violence, economic upheaval and so much more have affected the balance of our universe.

Yet I want to encourage you to be encouraged, and to let hope rise. Don’t fight with people in your life; fight to love and live (1 Cor. 13).

Believe it or not, I took on a renovation project just before Thanksgiving. For reasons beyond my control, the actual work began just three weeks ago. As I look around at the process and progress, I am thankful and encouraged (praise be to God) with the fact that in just a couple of days, before Christmas, our home will have a fresh new look.

That’s something for me to look forward to. What are you looking forward to in the days ahead? Even if you have suffered loss, weeping may endure for a night; but joy comes in the morning (and sometimes in the mourning).

Hold on; there is hope beyond the pain. If you are like me, having suffered recent loss of family, friends and loved ones, don’t give up; don’t give in. There is hope in the message of the season. Christ the Savior is born; let Jesus bring you comfort, and yes, joy.

I am reminded of words that my grandfather, Reverend Martin Luther King Sr. often spoke: “Thank God for what we have left.”

Please, in the days ahead, do what you can to make the world a better place. Stand for life from the womb to the tomb.

Stand for human dignity for the one blood/one human race.

“”For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

Finally, please, repent from sin; return to God; forgive and seek forgiveness; and hold on to faith, hope and love. Merry Christmas to everyone. {eoa}
