If you’re wondering whether there’s still hope for America in these uncertain days, you’re not alone. But the good news? History is filled with examples that show when we humble ourselves and pray, God shows up. That was the powerful message shared by William Federer during a recent interview with Kirk Cameron on TBN.
“America is holding back global gangs,” Federer said, warning that if our nation falls, “you’d have Chinese dictators, Russian dictators, North Korean dictators, Iranian Ayatollah dictator… human rights will be crushed.” But rather than stoking fear, Federer pointed to a solution: prayer, repentance and remembering the miracles God has already performed.

He recalled a moment from the Revolutionary War when George Washington was miraculously delivered from sure defeat. “A very dense fog began to rise off the river and began to settle in a peculiar manner over both encampments… so very dense was the atmosphere I could scarcely discern a man at six yards distance,” said Major Ben Talmage, a witness to the event. The fog allowed Washington and his troops to escape, unharmed.
That miracle came after the Continental Congress declared a day of fasting and prayer.
Again and again throughout American history—from a hurricane that scattered a French invasion fleet in 1746, to a storm that drove British troops from Washington D.C. in 1812—God answered when people called on Him.
Federer reminded viewers that even President Donald Trump made it a point to thank God publicly—something rare in our modern political age. And it matters. “In God is our trust,” Federer quoted from the rarely-sung fourth verse of the Star-Spangled Banner. “They ought to sing that verse at the ball games.”
But what about today? What about now?
Kirk Cameron offered encouragement: “Our cultural setback could be a divine setup for a spiritual comeback in America today.” Federer agreed. “I personally believe that we could be at the precipice of a great awakening in our country.”

So don’t lose heart. If history teaches us anything, it’s that God still responds to the prayers of His people. “He hears our prayers and He answers prayers,” Federer said. “He delights to bless and to protect His children, just like we do our own children.”
That’s the kind of hope you can hold onto.
