Evangelist: This Is Why You’re Struggling to Tell Anyone About Jesus

Greg Stier compares the power of the Holy Spirit to a nuclear bomb, saying the Spirit’s power is so much greater and instead of being destructive, it’s regenerative. It doesn’t matter how much money or how many people you have with you—the Spirit gives Christians supernatural power to share the gospel with others.

“The Holy Spirit wants to testify about Jesus through your lips,” Stier says. “The way He does that is He prompts us. It’s like getting a notification on your phone. Do you ever get that ding? Oh man, I think the Holy Spirit wants me to talk to that person. A couple weeks ago, we were at a staff party at an Italian restaurant and we got the notification, my wife and I.

“Our server’s name was Caitlin. And I got that ‘ding,’ you know, OK, we need to tell her about Jesus. I began a conversation with Caitlin and asked how we could pray for her and took her through our Life in 6 Words app, and my wife and I were talking to her about her life, and she had a really big struggle. She’d just been released from prison for stabbing somebody in the neck. I’m thinking to myself, I’m going to tip her well, just in case. So I’m listening to her story. My wife’s listening to her story. We take her through the gospel, we take her through the app, and in that moment, man, she put her faith in Christ.”

On his Gospelize podcast, whose mission is to help youth groups thrive, Stier says having a bold vision is key. The vision for his Dare 2 Share Ministries is “every team, everywhere, hearing the gospel from a friend.”

“Did you know that big, bold vision is out in front of us and it keeps us going and keeps us moving when we’re discouraged?” Stier says. “Because the finances aren’t coming in or some event didn’t work out or there’s some glitch in the technology. We keep that vision out in front of us. … We’re going to keep moving to get that done. What is your piece of that? … See, there are streets and schools, I believe, marked out for you.”
