Former Texas megachurch pastor Robert Morris is facing a lawsuit filed in Dallas County District Court alleging he sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl and that his family and members of Gateway Church conspired to cover it up for financial gain.
As reported by Fox News, the lawsuit accuses the Gateway Church founder and others of “libel, malice, defamation, slander, failure to report, civil conspiracy, intentional infliction of emotional distress and unjust enrichment.”

The plaintiffs, Cindy Clemishire and her father, Jerry Lee Clemishire, are seeking more than $1 million in damages.
Cindy Clemishire, now 53, claims she met Morris in 1981 while he was preaching at her Oklahoma church. According to the suit, the alleged abuse began in 1982 while Morris was staying at her home and continued for more than four years.
An Oklahoma grand jury indicted Morris in March on five counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child. He is currently out on bond.
In the newly filed civil suit, Clemishire alleges that Morris’ wife, sons and church members attempted to conceal the abuse. “[The] defendants acted in concert, cooperated with each other and conspired to maximize their profits through their unlawful and unjust course of action to fraudulently conceal and cover up the rape of Plaintiff,” the court documents state, according to FOX 4.

Morris resigned from Gateway Church in June 2024. He later sued the church, claiming his “highly inappropriate” relationship with a minor was not a breach of contract and demanding that the church fulfill its financial obligations to him.
According to the report, Morris was entitled to millions in deferred compensation, retirement benefits and severance.
The case is ongoing.
