Gabriel Pagan is head over heels in love with Jesus and happily engaged to the woman of his dreams. But several years ago as a gay man, he never would have seen himself in this place.
Pagan was first subjected to sexual activity at age 8 or 9 and was first exposed to pornography in elementary school. That set him on a course of sex addiction and same-sex lust that he didn’t know how to stop.
In church, the only message about homosexuality that Pagan heard was that gay people were going to “burn in hell,” he says. Because of that, he never felt safe talking about his same-sex attraction with any of his Christian friends or family members.
By the time Pagan reached high school, he says, his sexual appetite was completely fueled by pornography.
“I lost contact with some of my family because of how wild I was, how aggressive I was,” Pagan says on the “Charisma News” podcast. “I got to a place where I was suicidal. And I didn’t want to be gay.”
But then a young Christian man reached out to Pagan, not to flirt with him, but to share the gospel and genuinely love him. Pagan went to church with that young man and said the most unemotional prayer he could think of: “God, if You still want me, please save me.”
The Holy Spirit did that and more.
