In a bold call to action, actor Kirk Cameron is challenging Christians to stop retreating from cultural engagement and start actively shaping the public square. During a recent interview with CBN News’ Billy Hallowell, Cameron lamented the Church’s inaction: “It is to our shame that we’ve allowed this to rot on our watch.” He believes Christians have a biblical responsibility to be salt and light—not spectators in a decaying culture.

Cameron pointed to a growing cultural shift fueled by bold leadership, much of it surprisingly coming from outside the Church. “The political shift with Trump being elected… has put wind in parents’ sails,” he said, citing the former president’s courage to speak on controversial topics. Comparing Trump to the biblical figure Cyrus, he noted how God can use even secular leaders to advance His purposes.
The former “Growing Pains” star also highlighted cultural voices like Joe Rogan as examples of conviction Christians should emulate. “Guys like Joe Rogan… are demonstrating character qualities that should be possessed in spades by Christian men around the country,” Cameron said, adding that Rogan’s growing interest in faith makes his boldness even more noteworthy.
As Christians wrestle with how to respond to tough cultural topics, Cameron insists the first battle is spiritual. “We do battle the right way—first on our knees in prayer… being filled with love, a pure heart and a genuine faith,” he said. “Then we can be confident God will be with us as we advance what is true and beautiful and good.”
