Abraham Lincoln believed that “all men are created equal and have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” He stood against slavery and it cost him his life.
President Lincoln said, “If there is anything that links the human to the divine it is the courage to stand by a principle when everybody else rejects it.”
When it comes to honoring the sanctity of marriage between one man and one woman, should we disregard God’s design for this sacred institution to change with the currents of a “progressive” culture?
Democrat presidents Clinton, Obama and Biden did.
Bill Clinton previously said, “I remain opposed to same-sex marriage. I believe marriage is an institution for the union of a man and a woman. This has been my long-standing position and it is not being reviewed or considered.”
Barack Obama once stated, “I believe marriage is the union between a man and a woman. Now for me, as a Christian, it’s also a sacred union. God’s in the mix.”
Joe Biden as a senator voted for the “Defense of Marriage Act” in 1996 and communicated unequivocally, “Look, marriage is between a man and a woman and states must respect that. Marriage is between a man and a woman!”
My Experience
When I saw the freight train of homosexual marriage barreling down the tracks a decade ago, I worked with a buddy to produce an educational video tackling the topic from a biblical worldview. As a leader in a local church where one of my assignments was marriage ministry, I wanted to help equip people on this hot button issue.
I soon received a phone call from the leader of the church who labeled this project a “deal breaker” telling me he “did not want to go there” nor “receive death threats.” I appealed that everything would be from a biblically informed perspective and could he reserve judgment until the project was completed and he viewed the video.
We never reached that point because shortly thereafter I was called in for a “meeting,” where I was let go. When I later met with the leader in private to ask how I should communicate my departure to people after years of pastoral ministry, he told me “Just go and don’t come back.”
When same-sex marriage was legalized I called him to arrange a time for us to get together but he declined. He then inquired, “Did you really think your video was going to stop same-sex marriage?”
I replied, “Not necessarily, but I did believe God wanted me to take initiative and be salt in curbing cultural decay.”
We Have a Serious Situation
Right now, we “watchmen on the wall” for marriage, family and religious freedom are issuing a red alert as Democrats are rapidly pushing a radical bill with the misleading title of “Respect for Marriage Act” (HR8404). I serve as a public policy advisor for Liberty Counsel and our founder Matt Staver says, “If this bill passes, it will make each state subservient to the worst marriage laws of another state. This goes far beyond same-sex marriage!”
It’s purpose is demonic: deconstruct the definition of marriage in the United States of America. It’s moving rapidly through Congress, has momentum and unbelievably the support of all Democrats plus 12 Republicans as well!
This legislation advanced by LGBTQ activists intends to impose a total redefinition of marriage on the entire country. It shatters thousands of years of history and opens the door for configurations like polygamy (multiple wives), polyamory (multiple lovers and spouses) and pederasty (homosexual relationship between an adult male and adolescent male).
If the bill passes (it is right at the edge!) it will legitimize any kind of “marriage” arrangement if just one state approves it. The bill “repeals and replaces provisions that marriage is between a man and a woman, spouse of the opposite sex and recognizes any marriage that is valid under a state’s law.”
This legislation is a direct threat to the institution of marriage honored in definition, religion, custom and practice for thousands of years. There’s little breathing room as amendments are being considered before the final vote, but there’s no ironclad stipulation to protect religious liberty, merely a promise that LGBTQ proponents are determined to stop.
Red Alert
Churches and tax-exempt organizations will lose their tax exemption status if they act in noncompliance and discriminate against individuals whose “civil rights” will be protected by the law. This applies to Christian schools and any wedding related business—remember what happened to florists, photographers and bakers?
Block This Bill
Dreadful damages will result if deconstructing the definition of marriage occurs. The divine design for marriage and family is a man and a woman, not any configuration or perversion concocted by sinful humanity.
“Let marriage be held in honor among all and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous,” (Heb. 13:4).
The church and government have a compelling interest in the strengthening of marriage and promotion of stable families. Honoring marriage as the union of a man and a woman as it has been for thousands of years of Western civilization and by all major world religions brings untold blessings to this and generations to come.
Rebelling against God’s design for marriage and family brings serious consequences.
7 Terrible Repercussions
1. Distorts God’s purpose for marriage as a picture of Christ’s relationship with His church (Eph. 5:31-32).
2. Children and grandchildren suffer great harm deprived of the blessings of the nuclear family as God intended.
3. “Softens the soil” paving the way for more widespread promotion of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender relationships in society.
4. Legitimizes the LGBTQ lifestyle to “mainstream respectability” further eroding the morality of a nation and the deception of our children and naïve youth.
5. More laws, policies, initiatives and ordinances will be enacted to “educate” people and force compliance with the ever-expanding LGBTQ agenda.
6. The next generation will drift further into the throes of confusion regarding sexual identity, the sanctity of marriage and the role of children in a nuclear family.
7. As a nation we plunge further into the depths of secularism and perversion (deviating from our heritage as a Judeo-Christian nation) while causing multitudes of other nations to replicate our actions.
Here’s the Deal: Abolishing marriage as God design will bring God’s judgment on America.
