Watermark fans will be thrilled to hear Christy Nockels again on her first solo album. Life Light Up is a collection of songs of surrender and anthems of praise and worship, all of which will encourage listeners as they dwell on who God is and what He has done.
Opener “No Not One” proclaims that there is nothing greater than Jesus. The title track is a moving prayer that our lives would shine the light of Christ to the world.
We’ve heard that love is a choice, and “Choose” declares that we will choose to be in love with Jesus, to love what He loves. This ballad is a beautiful cry of surrender.
“You Are Able” picks up the pace a bit and will build listeners’ faith as they put their trust in Him and declare: “You are Able / Higher is our God / Than anything that comes our way / Come what may / You alone forever stay / You’re able / Higher is our God / Than anything that comes our way / Come what may / You alone forever stay / You’re able, Lord / You are able.”
The closing song, “By Our Love,” has a soft melody but is a powerful challenge to the church: “The time is now / Come church arise / Love with His hands / See with His eyes / Bind it around you / Let it never leave you / And they will know us by our love.”
With her unmistakable voice, Nockels offers songs that lead worshipers to focus on the Lord and remind us that we are to let Christ shine through us to the world. Longtime and new fans can only hope that Life Light Up is merely the beginning of a long list of solo albums.
