Foreign Policy magazine mocked Sarah Palin when she predicted in 2008 that if then-Sen. Barack Obama became president, Russia might invade Ukraine. But it turns out the former GOP vice president nominee may have been right.
Palin said then: “After the Russian army invaded the nation of Georgia, Sen. Obama’s reaction was one of indecision and moral equivalence, the kind of response that would only encourage Russia’s Putin to invade Ukraine next.”
Her comments are being taken more seriously now as concerns mount that Russia is preparing to cross the border into neighboring Ukraine.
“Yes, I could see this one from Alaska,” Palin wrote on her Facebook page Friday. “I’m usually not one to Told-Ya-So, but I did, despite my accurate prediction being derided as ‘an extremely far-fetched scenario’ by the ‘high-brow’ Foreign Policy magazine.”
Back in 2008, Blake Hounshell, who is now an editor of Politico magazine, wrote, “As we’ve said before, this is an extremely far-fetched scenario. And given how Russia has been able to unsettle Ukraine’s pro-Western government without firing a shot, I don’t see why violence would be necessary to bring Kiev to heel.”
Palin’s Facebook post has since been shared nearly 19,000 times, with more than 72,000 likes and more than 4,000 comments. Many were supportive.
“I admired you then and I still do,” Angela Didomenico wrote. “I hope u run fr president!!!!!”
Gary Hound Hand agrees. “You must run for president,” he wrote. “Good luck.”
