Rumors and Revelations

Glenn Packiam is worship pastor at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colo., and director of New Life School of Worship. He’s also one of the founding leaders and songwriters for Desperation Band, which makes his first solo album, Rumors and Revelations (Integrity Music), a highly anticipated project. Many of the songs in this collection, he says, come from a two-year journey of wrestling with God.

“I had been coasting in my own walk with the Lord and allowed my view of God to devolve into a patchwork of rumors,” Packiam admits.

“I would never have said that I believed these half-truths about God—things like ‘God will give me what I want’ or that ‘God shares my goal of success’—but I was living as if I did. There are no shortcuts to God.  The way to God—to life—is vigorous and requires total attention. I pray these songs reflect that and ignite the heart on a journey to firsthand faith.”

Included among the new songs are the familiar “My Savior Lives” and “Your Name.” On “For Love I Sing,” Packiam praises God for His goodness and forgiveness of sin. “I Will Stand” is a song of thankfulness and a declaration of worship. “Hold On” is a track of surrender, of letting go and holding on to His promises. “My Hope” will build listeners’ faith as they hear the chorus declare: “I put my hope in You / There’s nothing else to do / Through every valley I know You’re by my side / For my life is in Your hands.” Written as a personal message for some of Packiam’s friends whose baby was stillborn, this closing track will minister to anyone going through a difficult season.

The songs on Rumors and Revelations have a laid-back, gentle feel, but the truth of who God is and what He has done is clearly declared. Packiam has gone back to the basics of faith and built songs of praise and worship on that foundation. Also releasing simultaneously with this album is Packiam’s book Secondhand Jesus. The songs complement various chapters as Packiam shares how he wrestled with God, engaged Him and traded rumors for firsthand faith.
