During a joint session of Congress on Mar. 4, President Donald Trump honored 13-year-old Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel, a brain cancer survivor, by appointing him as an honorary Secret Service agent. Diagnosed in 2018 with a prognosis of five months to live, DJ has defied the odds and pursued his dream of joining law enforcement.

Throughout his battle with cancer, DJ has been sworn in as an honorary member by over 900 law enforcement agencies across the United States. His unwavering determination and positive spirit have made him a beloved figure in the law enforcement community.

During the address, President Trump introduced DJ, who was seated in the gallery wearing a Houston police uniform, alongside his father. The President highlighted DJ’s resilience and commitment to his dream, stating, “Since that time, DJ and his dad have been on a quest to make his dream come true.”
In a heartfelt moment, President Trump invited Secret Service Director Sean Curran to officially appoint DJ as an honorary Secret Service agent.
“Tonight, DJ, we’re going to do you the biggest honor of them all…I am asking our new Secret Service Director, Sean Curran, to officially make you an agent of the United States,” Trump stated.
Director Curran presented DJ with a Secret Service credential, which DJ proudly displayed to the applauding audience before embracing Curran.
The chamber erupted in chants of “D-J!” as members of Congress and attendees gave a standing ovation, celebrating DJ’s courage and dedication.
DJ’s journey is an inspiring testament to resilience and the pursuit of one’s dreams, even in the face of overwhelming challenges. His story continues to touch the hearts of many across the nation.
