Prophesy for Obstacles to Move, But Realize Purpose Doesn’t Come Without Suffering

Author and speaker Sarah Jakes Roberts says it’s important to prophesy for obstacles to move out of the path toward our calling. But at the same time, we have to recognize that we can’t fully walk in our purpose without experiencing suffering. We’ll actually get stuck without suffering; suffering allows growth.

“Sometimes you’ve got to unleash your mouth on the enemy,” Roberts says. “Literally, if the power of life and death is in the tongue, I want to challenge you to begin prophesying over what is standing in your way, standing in whatever it is that God has for you. I dare you to start prophesying that it would be moved and that it would be rendered powerless under the anointing of God that is working down on the inside of you. …

“I hear God saying, ‘Until you make amends with the fact that you do not get purpose without suffering, then you will always feel stuck.’

“I want to talk about suffering. Suffering is not something that we are comfortable with. … Suffering needs to have a purpose connected to it. … When you find something worth suffering for, you’re going to become someone you never thought you could be. … If I’ve got to face cancer, if I’ve got to face disease, then Father, let me face it, because there’s some glory waiting on the other side of it.”
