The Halpin family of Altadena, California, whose home was destroyed in the recent Eaton Fire, touched hearts worldwide with a viral video of them singing the Catholic hymn “Regina Caeli” over the remains of their property. The family said their intent was simply to “thank God that we’re safe.”
As reported by Breitbart News, the video gained traction after being shared by public figures, including actress Candace Cameron Bure and singer Bette Midler. Speaking on Fox & Friends Weekend, Peter and Jackie Halpin explained that their hymn was a response to discovering statues of the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph had survived the wildfire.

“It was remarkable how everything had gotten fried, but the statue of the Virgin Mary and another statue of St. Joseph were in perfect condition,” Peter Halpin said. Despite being slightly singed, the statues inspired the family to pray.
“Our home is dedicated to the sacred heart of Jesus,” Halpin explained. “We said a prayer to the sacred heart of Jesus and sang the hymn to the Blessed Virgin, a song our family has known for decades. It was a remarkable moment.”
The family did not anticipate the video’s widespread attention but has been moved by the overwhelming community response. “Our intention was not for this thing to go viral,” Peter Halpin said. “It was just a family moment, but the response has been unbelievable and heartfelt.”
Jackie Halpin shared her gratitude during the interview, emphasizing her faith. “My intention was to thank God that we’re safe,” she said. “We just wanted to pray and express our gratitude for what we had and, God willing, what we might have again.”
The Halpin family’s resilience and faith have resonated with many, offering a poignant reminder of hope amidst devastation. The Eaton Fire, which destroyed their home, is among several wildfires ravaging Southern California, with thousands of families displaced and efforts ongoing to contain the blazes.
