President Donald Trump lauded Elon Musk for his pivotal role in leading what he called the “most sweeping and consequential government reform program in generations.”
In a recent Oval Office address, Trump credited Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) with uncovering widespread waste and spearheading modernization efforts across the federal government.
“Elon has worked tirelessly helping lead the most sweeping and consequential government reform program in generations,” Trump said. “He’s brought a group of very smart people in and they found things that are pretty unbelievable.”

This press conference with the two leaders comes right after White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt revealed Musk’s successor for DOGE.
/**/According to Conservative Brief, Leavitt noted that “The entire Cabinet is involved,” and that “the entire Cabinet understands the need to cut government waste, fraud and abuse, and each Cabinet secretary at their respective agencies is committed to that.”
During his press conference with Musk, Trump pointed to significant cost-cutting accomplishments during the billionaire businessman’s 134-day tenure as a special government employee. These included the cancellation of unnecessary contracts, modernization of outdated systems and rooting out what Trump described as “unbelievably bad” spending.
Musk’s DOGE team reportedly identified over $160 billion in savings so far, with projections potentially exceeding $200 billion.
“Just as an example, DOGE canceled $101 million for DEI contracts at the Department of Education,” Trump noted. “$59 million for illegal alien hotel rooms in New York City. $45 million for DEI scholarships in Burma. $8 million for making mice transgender.”
Trump emphasized that these discoveries were only the beginning. “We’ve found things that are substantial, but they’re going to be very much more substantial with time,” he said. “The numbers could double and triple.”
Trump praised Musk’s courage in taking on a thankless role, noting that despite his global business success, Musk “willingly accepted the outrageous abuse and slander and lies and attacks because he does love our country.” He added, “Elon gave an incredible service—nobody like him.”

Trump gave Musk a special golden key, and following this Musk noted that he believes what he started is just the beginning of something greater. “This is not the end of DOGE, but really the beginning…I am confident that, over time, we will see—a trillion dollars of waste and fraud reduction.”
