Authorities are searching for a motive behind a deadly shooting that left two women dead and several others injured, including a state trooper, at Richmond Road Baptist Church on Sunday.
The suspect, identified as Guy House, allegedly killed two women and wounded two men inside the Lexington church before being fatally shot by law enforcement, according to Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers. The victims were identified as Beverly Gumm, 72, and Christina Combs, 32.

Police said the incident began around 11:30 a.m. when a state trooper stopped House near Blue Grass Airport after a license plate reader flagged the suspect’s vehicle. House reportedly opened fire, injuring the trooper, who is expected to survive.
“There were some people en route to the airport, and they got out and assisted the trooper,” Weathers said. “I appreciate them for getting out and doing what they did.”
/**/Following the initial shooting, House allegedly stole a vehicle and drove about 16 miles to Richmond Road Baptist Church, where the deadly attack occurred. While a motive has not yet been confirmed, authorities say there may have been a personal connection between the suspect and some of the church victims.
“Preliminary information indicates that the suspect may have had a connection to the individuals at the church,” Weathers said.
In a statement following the tragedy, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear called for prayer: “Please pray for everyone affected by these senseless acts of violence, and let’s give thanks for the swift response by the Lexington Police Department and Kentucky State Police.”
