The House of Representatives voted to censure Rep. Al Green (D-TX) after he disrupted President Donald Trump’s Tuesday address to Congress.
Ten Democrats joined Republicans in the 224-198 vote. Democrats began singing “We Shall Overcome” on the House floor to protest the vote, forcing House Speaker Mike Johnson to call a recess after failing to end the uproar.

The resolution to censure Greene was introduced by Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA).

Upon disrupting Trump’s Tuesday address, Johnson stated, “Members are engaging in willful and continuing breach of the quorum, and the chair is prepared to direct the sergeant at arms to restore order to the joint session. Mr. Green, take your seat. Take your seat, sir. Take your seat.”
/**/He then called for Green to be removed from the chamber. “Finding that members continue to engage in willful and concert a disruption of proper decorum, the chair now directs the sergeant at arms to restore order. Remove this gentleman from the chamber,” Johnson said.
Last month, Green introduced articles of impeachment against Trump for his proposal to take over Gaza.
“Ethnic cleansing in Gaza is not a joke,” Green said, adding that “ethnic cleansing has been a crime against humanity.”
“Injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America,” he said. “I rise to announce that the movement to impeach the president has begun. I rise to announce that I will bring Articles of Impeachment against the president for dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done.”
“I also rise to say that the impeachment movement is going to be a grass-up movement, not a top-down. The people have got to move forward. The people have to demand it,” Green declared. “And when the people demand it, it will be done.”
