President Donald Trump extended the deadline for ByteDance to divest TikTok for another 90 days.
“I’ve just signed the Executive Order extending the Deadline for the TikTok closing for 90 days (Sept. 17, 2025),” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

According to the executive order, the Department of Justice “shall take no action to enforce the Protecting Americans From Adversary Controlled Applications Act…or impose any penalties against any entity for any noncompliance with the Act, including for distributing, maintaining, or updating of any foreign adversary controlled application as defined in the Act.”
TikTok said in a statement that it is “grateful for President Trump’s leadership and support in ensuring that TikTok continues to be available for more than 170 million American users and 7.5 million U.S. businesses that rely on the platform as we continue to work with Vice President Vance’s Office.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters earlier this week that the Trump administration “does not want TikTok to go dark.”
“This extension will last 90 days, which the Administration will spend working to ensure this deal is closed so that the American people can continue to use TikTok with the assurance that their data is safe and secure,” she said.

In April, Trump announced a deadline extension for 75 days. “My Administration has been working very hard on a Deal to SAVE TIKTOK, and we have made tremendous progress. The Deal requires more work to ensure all necessary approvals are signed, which is why I am signing an Executive Order to keep TikTok up and running for an additional 75 days,” Trump wrote on Truth Social at the time. “We hope to continue working in Good Faith with China, who I understand are not very happy about our Reciprocal Tariffs (Necessary for Fair and Balanced Trade between China and the U.S.A.!). This proves that Tariffs are the most powerful Economic tool, and very important to our National Security!”
