Sam Rodriguez: Hispanic Congressional Caucus More Like the Hispanic Congressional Cult’

Read Time: 2 Minutes 12 Seconds

Earlier this week, the Hispanic Congressional Caucus rejected U.S. Rep. Mayra Flores of Texas for membership, and it has drawn the ire of a prominent Latino faith leader.

Samuel Rodriguez, President of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference and senior pastor of New Season Church in Sacramento, California, says the Hispanic Congressional Caucus has completely lost its focus, and that Flores’ rejection into that group is just the latest in a long line of mistakes Democrats have made with the Latino community.

“The Hispanic Congressional Caucus is acting more like the Hispanic Congressional cult,” Rodriguez told Charisma News in a statement. “The rejection of Mayra Flores speaks to a political apparatus completely out of tune as it pertains to understanding the values of the community it claims to serve.”

Flores, R-Los Indios, the first Mexican-born woman ever to be elected to Congress and a devout follower of Jesus Christ, said she was informed Wednesday of the decision by phone from the offices of the Hispanic Congressional Caucus. The caucus is made up entirely of Democrats, including five from Texas.

According to Texastribune.org, it was “originally founded in 1976 as a bipartisan working group of Hispanic lawmakers in both chambers of Congress. But in the 1990s, differences over the U.S.’s Cuba policy led to a fissure between the group’s Republican and Democratic members.”

Republicans left in 2003 to form a similar group, and since then, the media outlet says, the two groups have kept to their own parties. Congressional Hispanic Caucus bylaws now explicitly block Republicans from joining. A caucus spokesperson, Sebastian Roa, told Texastribune.org, “Rep. Flores’ Extrema MAGA values and their attacks on Latinos and our nation’s democracy on Jan. 6 do not align with CHC values.”

On a recent episode of The Ingraham Angle with Laura Ingraham on Fox News, Flores says it just goes to prove where the Democrats stand on American Latinos.

“They basically told me I was not good enough for them,” says Flores, who is running for re-election on Nov. 8. This just shows they are not for the Hispanic community. They are for their own party.

“I don’t need them and the Hispanic community certainly doesn’t need them. We are the real voice and we stand for values we were raised with—God, family and hard work. That is what we are all about. (In Spanish) Dios, familia and mucho trabajo.”

Hispanic Texas Republican congressional candidates Cassy Garcia and Monica De La Cruz also appeared on the show with Flores.

“Hispanic voters, we are common-sense voters,” Garcia says. “We believe in the American dream. We are tired of the Biden-Pelosi agenda. We are hard-working, we want a strong and secure border. We are seeing a shift in Hispanic voters because the Democratic party has left the Hispanic community.”

Rodriguez echoed Flores’ and Garcia’s comments.

“As a matter of fact, the leftist progressive Democratic agenda is both anti-Latino and anti-Christian,” Rodriguez says. {eoa}
