What Kind of Messiah Are You Looking For?

What kind of Messiah were the Jewish people looking for when He came? That may not have been a question you’ve ever thought about before but it’s so important. While many Jews, including those that would be His disciples, recognized Jesus as the Messiah, the Anointed One that had been promised, many did not. Why was that exactly?

In some ways the answer is simple. They were looking for a king, a ruler, a deliverer and someone who would conquer the Romans, remove their authority and replace it with a different government. While the zealots, who were a radical, political group during the first century who carried out assassinations against political figures, were trying to bring in their own government through violent means, others expected God to bring the long-promised Messiah to the throne.

Jesus would fulfill all of God’s plans but during His first coming, He would be the suffering servant and not the conqueror king. He will return soon during His Second Coming as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords who will rule forever and ever.
