In a time of political division and unrest, Christians can find guidance and comfort in the words of pastor and author Max Lucado, following Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 election.

“Pray. Love. Trust.” These three words, echoed in Lucado’s recent op-ed for Fox News, serve as a clarion call to Christians facing uncertain times, urging us to move forward with faith and compassion.

Lucado reminds us that prayer is powerful, even when the world around us feels chaotic. “Ask God to humble us, hear us and heal us,” he encourages. This victory might bring a sense of relief for many, yet it is no time for complacency. We must pray not only for our leaders but also for our nation and our neighbors. Prayer bridges divisions, Lucado notes, as he recalls Jesus’s own example of interceding for those who persecuted Him. Imagine the transformation if, instead of harboring anger, we lifted our political opponents in prayer.

Second, Lucado calls us to love in a world filled with fear, anger and contention. “Governments will fail, but God’s love will last,” he reminds us. While the political landscape can feel like shifting sand, God’s love is the rock upon which we can stand on. As Christians, this love is our strongest tool to reach those around us, especially in times of victory or defeat. Lucado suggests simple acts of love toward those we encounter every day, bringing hope and healing to a weary world.

Finally, we are called to trust. Lucado eloquently writes, “Whether your preferred candidate occupies the White House or not, we can know that God’s in charge of who’s in charge.” We may not know what the next few years hold, but we know who holds our future. Proverbs 16 reminds us that God guides the hearts of leaders, and we can take comfort in that assurance.

Let Trump’s victory mark not the end of our political engagement but the beginning of a new season. Lucado’s words challenge us to “pray, love, and trust” as we step forward, not in complacency, but with proactive commitment. It’s time for Christians to embrace our role in shaping culture and society, showing compassion, loving our neighbors and upholding truth. Let us press forward, serving our communities and nation with a Christlike resolve that inspires hope, unity and revival.
