Jeremiah 33:3 is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. It says, “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things which you do not know.” From personal experience, I can say that our faithful God not only hears but answers prayer.
In 2010, I began praying a prayer that transformed my prayer life. Dr. Jerry Kirk was speaking on the lordship of Jesus Christ. “Each morning, I pray, ‘Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your grace that has made me Your dearly loved child.'” As he spoke of the surpassing love of God, his sermon inspired, equipped and challenged me to pray the very prayer that empowered his ministry for over five decades because it was continually transforming him. This pastor, who had spent time with the Pope, Mother Teresa and Billy Graham was still being transformed into the image of Christ? I was intrigued.
At the conclusion of his sermon, Jerry invited the congregation to enter into a covenant prayer partnership with him. He said, “If you pray for me for 30 days by name, I will do the same for you.” More than 500 accepted his invitation.
That was the beginning of my life-changing journey of prayer. My husband and I began praying through the 10 themes of that prayer, and I can honestly say we began receiving immediate results. It was amazing. I began to notice that when I didn’t start my day with this simple prayer of commitment, I was not receiving the same opportunities to be a channel of His love and grace to those around me.
People have often asked me, “How do you know you are praying the will of God?” When we pray everything God desires for each one of us, rest assured, we are indeed praying His will.
The Prayer Covenant is based on 10 themes: grace, love, compassion, repentance, worship, commitment, dependence, influence, discipleship and authority.
