For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God: the Lord thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. —Deuteronomy 7:6
When two men entered into a covenant, they acquired each other’s assets, possessions, and prestige, as well as each other’s liabilities, debts, and enemies. A strong, wealthy person had nothing to gain by pledging himself to someone who was weak or poor.
We have nothing God needs. Our best works are as filthy rags before His holiness (Isaiah 64:6). God receives nothing from the covenant except the one thing He desires—a relationship with His children.
God chose you to be a partaker of His covenant. In Isaiah 41:9 He says, “I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away.”
Give Him all you have—your desires, dreams, sorrows, and needs—and allow Him to replace them with His abundant life. When you give Him all of you, you lose nothing of value. Make the same choice to surrender that Paul made when he wrote, “But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of that knowledge of Christ Jesus, my Lord” (Philippians 3:7-8).
Lord Jesus, I passionately desire an intimate relationship
with You. I give You my heart, my life, my hopes, dreams,
and desires as well as my sin, hurt, and pain. I receive
Your Holy Spirit and Your abundance so I may live
my life in praise of You. Amen.
