Could Your Obstacles Actually Be Opportunities?

God has a destiny for each of our lives, but oftentimes, in order to reach that destiny, we must first be willing to face the challenges that lie in front of us.

Perhaps God has put it on your heart to start a business or ministry. Perhaps you have prayed about it; you have been tested; you have gotten a confirmation in Scripture; and you have even experienced other signs that have confirmed to you that it is God’s will.

Suddenly, as you are embarking on your endeavor, you start to feel a shift, and challenges start to arise. You begin to question whether or not you should give up and not go forward.

Perhaps that something holding you back is past trauma or a crisis in your life that has come up out of nowhere. How will you respond to this setback? Will you choose to respond with fear and intimidation, or will you respond with greater determination to go after the destiny God has ordained for you?

The Bible shows us a stark contrast between the two ways we can choose to respond to obstacles and setbacks. Scripture reveals this to us in Numbers 13.

As Moses sends the spies into the promised land of Canaan, he is not sending them to see if they can take the land but, rather, how they will take the land. After the spies return, they report back that it is a land full of milk and honey, but also that the children of Anak are there.

How does this story relate to your life? Because we can often see the promised land—the job that God is calling you to, the business that you are working toward creating or the ministry that God has placed in your heart—but there are challenges in the way that we must overcome in order to take the land that was promised.

Later in the text, we learn that Caleb and Joshua become the only two who left Egypt allowed to enter the promised land because of their determination and faith.

What we learn from this story is that often a crisis in our life can become a catalyst for achieving the impossible. When we start to see obstacles as opportunities for our destiny, we begin to overcome setbacks, and we can start to attain what God has promised to us.

Overcoming obstacles and setbacks, whether it is an emotional challenge, a financial challenge or even discouragement from friends and family, requires us to discern that what we are going after is truly God’s will for our lives. Reaching our true destiny means that we must walk with the Lord and seek His confirmation that what we are going after is truly what He has ordained for us.
