We know the story. Simon Peter had been out fishing all night with his crew. But when Jesus got involved, a miracle happened.
What we may not have noticed, however, is something Dr. Joelle Suel unpacks on a recent episode of The Glorious Truth on the Charisma Podcast Network. Jesus asked Peter to use his boat, she says, “And from this boat, He started teaching the multitude. Now mind you, Peter was tired. Peter had not only worked all night in his trade, but he had gotten nothing.”
And Suel points out an important truth for those who want to launch out into the deep things of God. “[Peter] put the Lord first. Even though he was tired, he allowed him to use his boat. Isn’t it like the Lord to call us to do little steps like that at the most inconvenient time? Do you know He has someone call you at night when you’re tired after work? He has someone ask you to help when you are ready to just call it a day? The phone rings for you to pray for someone in order to sleep,” Suel says.
“The way God works is to surprise us with more when we are willing to obey the little. We cannot focus on ministering to hundreds or thousands of people if we don’t say yes to minister to the one that He brings in our lives,” she says. “And it’s as the Holy Spirit leads us that we take those steps, that we obey the Lord in the little things.
“But it’s not always convenient. … It’s not always the right time. It’s not always the right place. And we don’t really know why. … We don’t see the full picture until much later.
