How Jesus’ Finished Work Allows You to Be Bold in Your Faith

As I meditate on our beautiful King Jesus and His work, I am astounded by His majesty. I keep feeling the Lord laughing at His enemies, our enemies. The Bible boldly declares that He sits on His throne in heaven and laughs at His enemies, and when we become one with Him through faith, our enemies become His.

We have all been there before: accused in our thoughts or through the voice of another or in our own conscience. How do we fight the enemy of our souls? We fight with truth and the bold declaration of Jesus’ finished work. The enemy no longer has any power over us when we understand that Jesus removed the written requirements of the law, having nailed it to the cross in His own body. The one who wrote the law fulfilled it completely in Himself, the hands that penned the commandments pierced to the cross for our sake—This is how He disarmed principalities and powers; this is how He made a spectacle and triumphed over them.

In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which also you were raised with Him through the faith of the power of God, who has raised Him from the dead.

And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has resurrected together with Him, having forgiven you all sins. He blotted out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us and contrary to us, and He took it out of the way, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed authorities and powers, He made a show of them openly, triumphing over them by the cross (Col. 2:11-15).

The accuser of the brethren, whom we know as Satan, used to stand before God and accuse us night and day. But now because of Jesus Christ, through faith in His work, we stand spotless before the throne. In Revelation, we see the resulting work of Jesus against Satan and what He has truly done for us in becoming the propitiation for our sin. The apostle John boldly declares what he sees now, standing before a holy God. The accuser has been cast out of the holy place before the throne of God, and now Jesus stands in His place, ever making intercession for us. Today Jesus stands as our high priest, and you and I are blessed based upon the righteous standing of the high priest.
