“The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see” (Heb. 11:1, MSG).
Heaven is full of goodness but not all good things are in heaven. Sound strange? It is. But there is one good thing available to us on this earth that will no longer be an option in heaven.
Faith.
The unique opportunity of this life is the invitation to experience and exercise faith. It is the one good thing that is not available in heaven and will no longer be an option once we leave this world.
Faith is not easy. The circumstances of this world make trusting in something we cannot see a very difficult endeavor. It requires a level of humility that is fascinating to the angels. The strange (and sometimes tragic) circumstances of the human experience give us an excuse — we don’t understand; we cannot see!
The unique opportunity of humanity is the ability to trust what we cannot comprehend. To put our hope in what cannot be seen or explained definitively; what an incredible challenge! What an inspiring opportunity! To know God in this way; to trust Him beyond all senses.
What will you decide? In the midst of your confusing, frustrating and strange circumstances, will you step into the only goodness heaven cannot do? The angels are watching. God is prompting. You have the chance to praise God in an incredibly unique fashion. Perhaps this is the very reason life exists.
Your circumstances are not a punishment or an indictment. They are an opportunity, terrain for the most incredible choice we can make. Faith. {eoa}
