What’s an Encouragement Dream?

When your heart is grieving, God might give you a dream expressing His love. That’s what happened for Steve.

In Steve’s first dream, he’s home alone when officers show up at the door to accuse him. The accusation itself doesn’t seem to matter — they just know he’s guilty. Steve takes them down into the basement, which is perfectly clean. When they realize they can’t accuse him, they become friendly.

In the second dream, Steve and his family are living in a condo and the building’s basement is filled with dangerous people. Steve reports the issue but management doesn’t care.

He gets a frantic call from his wife who tells him the dangerous basement-dwellers are trying to break down the door. She says Steve obviously upset someone by trying to fix the situation.

What makes these dreams encouraging?

A home (house, condo, etc.) in a dream often represents some aspect of the dreamer’s life. These dreams suggest Steve’s family life (something involving his family).

In the first dream, the enemy tried to bring accusation against Steve but couldn’t. The basement (Steve’s foundation) was completely clean. In the second dream, certain things needed to be dealt with but those in authority didn’t want to deal with them, which affected Steve’s family.

I don’t know Steve personally but after talking about these dreams with him, I learned he’s going through a divorce. Suddenly the pieces click together more clearly. The enemy has tried to bring accusation — but Steve is clean. In a painful, difficult situation, God is revealing how He sees Steve and He’s encouraging Steve’s heart.

The Lord actively comforts His people, sometimes through incredible dreams. To hear more about these dreams and the interpretation, listen to episode 15 of The Dream’s Guy podcast. {eoa}

John and Dawna Thomas were radically saved out of the drug culture in 1996. Personally mentored by John Paul Jackson, they’ve been on staff with or have worked alongside Streams Ministries since 2004. John pastored The Bridge Metrowest (planted by John Paul) for five years before he and Dawna stepped out into full-time itinerant ministry. After John Paul passed away, John began to work more closely with the Streams leadership team and in 2016 was asked to become the president of Streams Ministries. With his background as a pastor and a minister in various settings around the world, John has a unique perspective on prophetic ministry and the global Body of Christ. He desires to see the Church rise up in her authority and in the full power of the Holy Spirit, and his passion for God’s heart undergirds everything he does. He wants to help the Bride of Christ respond with fervent devotion to the One who called her. John co-authored The Art of Praying the Scriptures: A Fresh Look at Lectio Divina with John Paul Jackson and he has an upcoming book release, Dream Elements: An Alternative Dream Dictionary. John has also written courses on prophetic ministry, dream interpretation, and the Kingdom of God. As president of Streams Ministries, he ministers internationally to help restore the awe of God to a world that has lost its wonder. He and Dawna live outside of Dallas, Texas.
