In a recent question-and-answer session on The 700 Club, Gordon Robertson provides a clear and encouraging explanation to deepen believers’ understanding of this vital part of the Christian life.
Ephesians 6:18 calls us to “pray always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.” As Robertson points out, this is more than simply speaking words or listing personal needs. When we pray in the flesh, our prayers often focus on what we want or need. But praying in the Spirit is a supernatural connection that aligns our prayers with God’s will.
As Robertson mentions, the way in which we can intercede with this type of heavenly prayer is through first being baptized in the Holy Spirit. Through the baptism of the Holy Spirit the Lord provides individuals with the ability to pray in tongues, where we speak the mysteries of God to the Father.
/**/Robertson further looked to the Apostle Paul’s words in Romans 8, where he says: “We do not know how to pray,” but the Spirit “helps our weakness.” When we are baptized in the Holy Spirit we are able to pray with wisdom, intercede effectively and discern what God is saying to His Church today.
