Abraham’s Secret to Total Access to God’s Ear

He didn't have the Bible, go to a prayer seminar or become filled with the Holy Spirit. Yet Abraham enjoyed this coveted relationship with God.

In many ways, communication is the fruit of intimacy. We usually only expose our heart to those that we know and love.

With this simple truth in mind, I was recently reminded that God primarily speaks with His friends. The Creator of the cosmos can naturally communicate with whoever He chooses, but mainly transmits His wonder to those who open their lives up to Him.

In the first reference to prophecy in Scripture, we are told that Abraham “is a prophet, and he will pray for you, and you will live” (Gen. 20:7b).

I don’t know about you, but I’ve often wondered what positioned Abraham to do these amazing things? What was so unique about him?

You probably understood this long before me, but I discovered it was his enduring friendship with God that transformed the world.

The heavenly Father’s attitude about Abraham is quite apparent in the following passages:

  • “”Did you not, our God, drive out those who lived in this land before Your people Israel, and You gave it perpetually to the descendants of Abraham, who was in covenant love with You” (2 Chronicles 20:7).
  • “Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham, my friend” (Isaiah 41:8b).
  • “Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness, and he was called the friend of God” (James 2:23).

Much of what Abraham said and did came out of the overflow of his abiding relationship with God. He shows us that those who truly know the Lord can hear His voice and speak for Him.

Where are you with God? Has your heart been laid bare? Do you ever talk to Him face-to-face, as one speaks to a friend?

Understand that the heavenly Father simply does not confide in the masses. He only unveils beauty and wonder to those who truly love Him. {eoa}
