The Power of Accountability

woman pointing up

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?” (Matt. 7:3-4).

The past few months have been a powerful time for intercessors to bring forth new tools to the body of Christ from the heavenly realms. As we have stood in the gap between the message of the kingdom and the hurts of the world, the more the Lord has highlighted the power that is released when we are walking our talk. This is evidenced by how rapidly social media passes around bold acts of love and good news lately. The hug between the Portland officer and the young boy is one example. It stands in such contrast to the division that has been consuming our relationships.

So, as I tugged and tugged on the heavens for something to release in this hour, The Lord highlighted accountability to me in the following way: I was praying through some of my own personal issues with a friend. Suddenly, it became apparent that we were dealing with something generational. Not only that, but it affected the nation.

My family was involved in organized crime at the turn of the century. The Holy Spirit took me through repenting for the actions of those in my family line who began their endeavors in New York and then were involved in the establishment of Las Vegas. I could see that the gifts and callings on their lives were so great. Because they were in rebellion they were actually able to establish strongholds of sin in the nation.

The Holy Spirit then led me to call back the calling on their lives and ask for the heavenly plunder that would have belonged to the nation to be restored. My friend and I both knew that there was a huge breakthrough.

The next morning, I did not feel compelled to go out and change the seven mountains of society anymore. The Lord showed me that the church was spending a lot of effort looking at the sins of the non-believers. It would bind the powers of darkness and usher in the transformation that we are awaiting if we would step in and take responsibility.

Imagine the power of an entire congregation standing up and one by one declaring what they are repenting for. Imagine the walls that would come down in society if we took accountability for the actions we have participated in. This is true spiritual authority over darkness.
