CN Morning Rundown: ‘Good Shepherd’ Ring Discovered off the Coast of Caesarea

Here’s a quick summary of the top stories on cn.mycharisma.com:

‘Good Shepherd’ Ring Discovered off the Coast of Caesarea

The Marine Archaeology Unit of the Israel Antiquities Authority discovered ancient treasures from two shipwrecks off the coast of Caesarea in Israel. According to Jacob Sharvit and Dror Planer of the Israel Antiquities Authority’s Marine Archaeology Unit, “The ships were probably anchored nearby and were wrecked by a storm.”

The artifacts included a special gold ring engraved with the figure of the good Shepherd. The theme of the good Shepherd is throughout the Bible; in the Old Testament, Isaiah 40:11 (NIV) says, “He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart.”

The image is also one of the earliest and oldest images used in Christianity for symbolizing Jesus as humanity’s compassionate shepherd. Jesus even called himself a shepherd, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep” (John 10:11).

Supreme Court to Hear Arguments on Biden Vaccine Mandates Soon

After receiving emergency requests in two COVID-19 shot mandate cases last week, the U.S. Supreme Court announced it will hear the oral arguments in a special session Jan. 7, 2022. The cases cover two federal policies: a shot-or-test mandate for workers at businesses with over 100 employees and a shot mandate for health care workers at facilities that receive Medicare or Medicaid funding. The larger question in these cases is whether the federal government has the authority to force employers to require injections.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued its shot mandate, which allowed for COVID weekly testing and mask wearing, for large employers on Nov. 5. OSHA’s mandate was challenged in courts across the country. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit issued an emergency motion to stay enforcement of the mandate in November, but the challenges were consolidated in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit, which lifted the stay last week.

Reaction was swift, and the justices received many requests asking the court to block the 6th Circuit’s decision. Two of those requests—one filed by trade associations and the other by multiple states, led by Ohio—are now slated for oral argument. The 6th Circuit’s ruling is currently in force.

Salvation Army Faces Holiday Shortages After Surrender to ‘Woke’ Culture

“The situation is dire!” So lamented the Salvation Army. But it should be no surprise. Recklessly riding the wave of today’s cultural tide will always lead to dire circumstances, tumult and chaos.

In reality, individuals, businesses, associations, educational institutions and nonprofit charitable organizations all are under attack by an unrelenting cultural tide of “wokeness.” Case in point: The Salvation Army’s surrendering to wokeness and adopting an agenda of attacking people because of their race. The Army’s collapse should appall every sensitive thinking person because that institution has universally been appreciated as an exemplary Christian organization, spreading a universal message of hope and charity designed to reach everyone without discrimination.

If a principle-centered worldwide institution like the Salvation Army can be compromised and undermined by popular culture phases, then we know: Any organization, religious or secular, evidently can be gripped, swept and unduly influenced by today’s cultural tide.
